Geoscience Australia houses Australia’s largest collection of geological and geophysical data. Data is collected from many sources, including data submitted under the Offshore Petroleum Act, which is then made available to industry and research institutions at minimal cost. The Petroleum and Marine Division of Geoscience Australia PMD provides geoscientific and technical advice to government on: * petroleum resources and their development; * marine and Antarctic geoscience; * carbon dioxide capture and geological storage (CCS); * defining Australia's offshore boundaries. This assists government and the community to make appropriate and informed decisions about the use of resources and the management of the environment, including contributing to regional marine planning and management of Australia's oceans and coasts.
